The Glamorous Glennis

Hey there, friends!

Throughout the month of October, my links will send you here as a quick landing spot and tribute to my Mom, and then you can read the current post at: www.thefoodadventuress.blogspot.com.  Thanks for reading!

Today is October 12 – it’s my Mom’s birthday.  She hails from Mena, Arkansas – and it stuck with me as a kid when she mentioned, while insisting that I write letters to my grandparents, that I needed to spell that out because the post office was known to misinterpret Mena, AR for Mesa, Arizona.

That probably fostered my general frustration that so many Americans are unfamiliar with the state abbreviations, but I digress…

My Mom was born Joan Glennys, and her sister is Judith Gayle.  Interestingly, both go by their middle names, although Mom’s became Glennis.  I always thought she was named after a war-time airplane because I remembered that story from my grandfather, but maybe he just loved the correlation between “the Glamorous Glennis” and his own daughter.  U.S. Air Force Captain Chuck Yeager christened the craft as a tribute to his wife.  You should definitely read the brief “milestones of flight” history of that plane, the first to travel faster than the speed of sound (Mach 1.06).  Ironically, it happened on October 14, 1947 – just two days after my Mom’s birthday, but I won’t disclose her age.  She’d throttle me, and I suspect my Aunt Gayle would be in hot pursuit.  They may throttle me regardless.

Anyway, I say all this partially to force the gargantuan army of people who read my blog to pause for a minute in honor of my Mom, but also to direct you to some related posts over on my little foodie blog, The Food Adventuress.  Starting today and throughout the month of October, I’ve got a series of posts on (Foodie) Life Lessons Learned from Mom.  Hope you’ll check it out.  After reading, call your mother.

Also: thanks, Mom. ♥

    • Isn’t she? Great seeing the fabulous Aunt G (aka Gigi) this week. Love you more than I can convey in a quick hug, quick hello or quick bloggy comment response. :) <3

    • Love, love, love you and all you do & say, dear friend. And duh… your spot is always reserved. Time to seriously plan a family mingle. Seriously.
