(I’m not scared…)
Magpie Marketing has been simmering for a couple of years, and there have been plenty of projects on the back burner. A recent handful of phone calls asking for some marketing, PR, social media and general outreach helped prove it was time to move the focus on helping others front and central.
Specifically, last week I had the chance to begin working with the Tech Adventure Club, founded by Sarah Daigle Scott (@TechTeacherGirl). This is a fantastic project with a very simple premise: to take kids from consuming to creating websites, video games, software and innovative concepts. This week, they’ve been learning to code using Python.
For now, TAC is operating as a summer day camp with approximately 10 – 25 kids absorbing web design, code and graphic design. Read more on the TAC website and blog. If you live in northwest Arkansas, there are slots available in the July 9 – 27 camp (it runs Monday – Friday from 8:30 – 10:30a). If this is up your alley, watch for updates to the TAC site and some exciting announcements in the coming weeks!
We’ve also thrown our hats in the ring for a shot at the ARK Challenge, an accelerator grant providing seed money, coworking space and fourteen weeks of startup boot camp training to fifteen selected organizations. The press coverage on the ARK Challenge has been tremendous – the program is the result of a U.S. Department of Commerce Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge and is one of just 20 projects nationwide to receive federal funding for the advancement of regional competitiveness” according to the ARK website, which is well worth your time to visit.
What’s the point? Innovative businesses and ideas and, specifically, the people who chase them are much like snake charmers. It’s an art form, and not everyone is qualified or inclined to do it. For Magpie Marketing, working with people of this caliber is an honor (regardless of their Python fondness). Here’s to exciting, game changing ideas!
