Monday Magpie Muse: August

“The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color.”

~ Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting

Oh, I love this book – and movie. So much so that I feel compelled to post Tuck Everlasting quotes throughout the month of August. Natalie Babbitt masterfully conveys the idea of “carpe diem” and living a full life in the small moments with this book.

Why Monday Muse? We have a massive magnetic chalkboard (see that affliction here) wall in our kitchen that serves as a weather/meteorology station as well as, more importantly, home to a weekly quote. Others seem to enjoy them when they visit, so I post them here as well.
