Out With the Old, In With the New (Year)!

Happy new year!

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~ Benjamin Franklin

2013 is going to be a fantastic year. I love the quote above because it speaks to the idea that we are ever-evolving and always improving. So, while I certainly engage in the practice of considering new year’s resolutions, I’m also fond of the approach that we should be constantly tweaking, adjusting and ensuring that each new year finds us better.

At Magpie Marketing, the past few months have been exciting. Our most recent projects have run the gamut, including:
Efforts to stand up a Dress for Success affiliate for northwest Arkansas, including site and application consulting and grant writing. This nonprofit organization has a presence in more than 75 communities nationwide and works to provide interview suits, confidence boosts and career development to low-income women.

Note: the photo below is not ours, it is from the DFS Worldwide-West affiliate’s Facebook page. Chills! The NWA chapter is still pending and other consideration for approval by DFS Worldwide, but we are crossing our fingers that we can soon share photos of success just like the one above!

Work with Jaden’s Doll Mall, an online retailer of custom, handmade (and otherwise difficult to find) dollhouses for 18″ dolls such as the American Girl™ collection, Our Generation dolls from Target and Madeline dolls from Madame Alexander. Thanks to our collaboration, they are selling through their own site as well as on Amazon and Etsy.

Guest writing the August – October blog posts for the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas, an organization I’m proud to be engaged with as a member of the NWA Advisory Council. This powerful nonprofit works to support women and strengthen Arkansas through grants and events such as Girls of Promise (March 9, 2013) and Power of the Purse NWA (October 2013).

Additionally, I was fortunate to contribute some freelance writing for 2Njoy Magazine, an arts, culture and entertainment publication showcasing the best the region has to offer. Articles/issues included:

August 2012:
– A feature on Arkansas’ own Yarnell’s Ice Cream (pages 14 – 17)

September 2012:
– An Alaska travel feature (pages 8 – 11)
– A spotlight on the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas (pages 33 – 35)

October 2012
– A travel feature on Mountain View, Arkansas (pages 6 – 7)
– An article on NWA women entrepreneurs (pages 14 – 15 – please note there was a publishing error; I do know how to spell entrepreneurs correctly!)
– A cover feature on exceptional photographer Ed Cooley and his White River Gallery (pages 34 – 38)
– An overview of Arkansas wineries (pages 40 – 42)

As 2013 begins, we’ll be tackling some ongoing work for Jaden’s Doll Mall and Dress for Success as well as work for Ed Cooley – Ed is a phenomenal photographer whose breathtaking work must be seen in person at his gallery to be believed. He has captured France, Italy, Alaska, Chicago and the stunning natural landscapes of Arkansas in amazing ways.

Magpie Marketing is a solo, predominantly NWA-focused endeavor, but I am also fortunate to partner with Stephanie Buckley on Porch Swing Marketing, the parent company of Arkansas Women Bloggers, Oklahoma Women Bloggers and several other states in the works!

Whew! Exciting times. Please contact me if I can be of service to you in the areas of marketing, PR, social media, standing up a basic website, business and nonprofit consulting or grant and freelance writing. Thank you for making 2012 such an interesting and rewarding year. Here’s to 2013 finding us all better!
