Southern Summer Nights: Salad Course

There's a super fun foodie giveaway at the end of this post. It was sponsored by some of our good local foodie friends, the folks at Microplane in Russellville and at Argenta Market in North Little Rock. I was not compensated and all opinions are always my own. Welcome, y'all! Are you here for the party? You know, the #VirtualDinnerParty? Hopefully, you received your invitation and have already admired the lovely table settings prepared by Gina while nibbling on the black-eyed pea salad ... View Post

1895 Dogbranch School

This is at the 1895 Dogbranch School and Cemetery, just off the highway and taken during a meandering trip through north Arkansas to Mountain View in the summer of 2012 to visit Stephanie Buckley, The Park Wife. It accompanied an article about taking the slow road that ran in a regional magazine last October (pages 6 - 7). You can follow the full road trip highlights in my North Arkansas Meanderings trip on Foursquare or via the travel section of The Little Magpie. Around here, it has to be ... View Post

In the Lair of the Naturalist

When our oldest daughter started devouring the Spiderwick Chronicles, we dove in right alongside her. I was particularly riveted by the way Arthur Spiderwick's office was depicted, all rife with leather-bound field journals and specimens and glass cloche domes covering interesting objects. It wasn't the series that kicked off this interest, I'm afraid: it's long-standing. A magazine article years ago (which I'm disappointed I can't seem to locate) introduced me to a New England home with a ... View Post

Belt It Out {Leather Bracelet Giveaway}

Once in a while, you encounter some pretty meaningful things. They're still just inanimate objects, but they may be rife with symbolism, memories or just a degree of character that tells you they were lovingly and well made. As I've been on a somewhat lengthy quest to hold on to fewer objects and clear the clutter (I have a long way to go...), I'm still acutely aware of the way that an object can represent so many emotions. In fact, it's one of the reasons I've been posting #StuffIHeart on ... View Post

Beans, Boots & Blogs

I am exceptionally excited that tomorrow (!) I'll have the opportunity to attend an event hosted by P. Allen Smith (the Arkansas-based television host, designer, gardening and lifestyle expert) and the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board. A handful of bloggers from throughout the state have been invited to this event, known as Bean2Blog, which is an in-depth day of learning about "the miracle bean" along with education and tours at Allen's Garden Home at Moss Mountain Farm. Why, yes - I AM ... View Post
