As mentioned in the kick-off post for the 2015 Shiny Objects series, it's no secret that I frequently have a handful of items I'm coveting related to technology. Even as I work incredibly hard to reduce possessions in most facets of my life and continue to doggedly give away, consign or repurpose items we do not truly need, there are always a few tech tools on my wish list. I try to make smart investments in items that are well-made and equipped to go the long haul with me, and wherever ... View Post
Shiny Objects: My Digital Life
Almost two years ago, I carried on (as I am wont to do) about a column I'm pining for that used to run in Lucky Magazine called How I'm Wired. I still miss it, and I'm still waiting for Lucky to call me about resuscitating the column. Le sigh. Anyway, in the aforementioned post, I listed my Nine Essential Apps. New Year's Resolution Inspiration: Tackling the Photos (Part 2 – ThisLife.com)
If you read my last post (In Defense Of The Blurry Ones), you know that I was recently sucked deep into the belly of a massive photography project and lived to tell the tale. New Year's Resolution: Tackling the Photos (Part 1 – Inspiration)
I'm a little bit passionate about photographs and memories. In 1997 - while living and studying in Dijon, France - I completed a seminal project which involved replicating photos from the 1850s from around the city of Chalon-sur-Saône in the Burgundy region. Chalon is regarded as the birthplace of photography and the home of Nicéphore Niépce, known as the father of modern day photography. While my photos were nothing to write home about, my French was passable and the project gained high enough ... View Post
Nine Essential Apps
Although it has been a few years, Lucky Magazine used to run a column called "How I'm Wired." Their tech staffer Emily Hsieh would share all the gadgets and gizmos she loved most, from wireless printers to her favorite purse-size camera and so forth. Here's the last column I've been able to find from 2010. I suspect that the simple truth is that a) none of the good stuff is really "wired" anymore and b) 90{cab58b9493bca9eccefbf3ae00ef5a3add1991efca1fb728a890b19984c3cc67} of readers are now ... View Post
