Yippee!
If you’re reading this, it is October 14, 2011 and I am officially checked out in preparation for our Coastal Bike Trip.
It’s been a busy twentieth anniversary month for the Ozark Natural Science Center, and I’m excited about taking off on vacation and returning refreshed and reinvigorated. As a self-indulging aside, this will be the first solo vacation for hubs and me since 2005 – wowza! Sophie the Great has been part of all we’ve done – she’s accompanied us to Chicago, Mexico, Paris and beyond. As lovely as she is, there comes a time when parents must take off on their own, and it is amplified after the arrival of subsequent children, lovely though they may also be. And so, having celebrated the first birthday of the smallest one, off we go.
We will depart on Saturday, October 15 for our six state tour which will include 2,500+ miles driven and 150+ miles biked. We’ll head toward Mississippi first and then carry on through Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee before circling back to Arkansas. That’s the plan, anyway.
Check out the supposed itinerary here, and stay tuned for the reality following our return in late October.
Which reminds me, I need to post about the origins of our family bike vacations at some point. Stay tuned for the highs and hilarity of The Katy Trail and our subsequent move to the Coastal Bike Trip. You’ll be riveted, I’m sure.
And no matter how you celebrate the onslaught of fall, heft an Octoberfest (or your brew of choice) to fall foliage and family fun!
